About the group
The group is closed during August, the church is utilized for other activities during the school holidays.
We will return on September 12th. At this time we will make a start on our Christmas song book. Each year we visit the local care homes in order to bring some cheer to the residents. We are very proud of our Christmas songs, which is a mixture of carols and “pop” songs. We encourage our listeners to join in so we aim to include songs that everyone will know.
We went around the care homes, Red House, Hamilton House and Gracewell plus the day centre in Well Street.
Our song repertoire ranges from Away in a Manger to Slade’s Merry
Christmas Everybody. Let it Snow, Jingle Bell Rock, the First Nowell , Calypso Carol and Santa Claus is Coming to Town are also on our list.
We always have an excellent time performing at Christmas. One of the
residents, 100 plus years old, kept perfect time with us playing the
The young folk at Well Street always look forward to our visits. They
just love a singalong.
The old songs always seem to get the best attention. It is lovely to see
everyone singing along to Away in a Manger and Silent Night.
Pauline Wright does a fantastic job keeping up with us on the piano. We
don’t always start on time but we usually finish together.
A big thankyou to all the U3A Ladies and Gentlemen who contributed.
However, it is not all about Christmas! We still have lots of fun singing our usual selection. Anything from 1940s music hall songs to The BeeGees, from Puppet on a String to Elvis or Sound of Music. In fact, anything with words and a tune.
So, if you fancy whiling away an afternoon having a jolly good time (plus tea and a biscuit) then come to Saints Peter and Paul Parish church on any 2nd or 4th Thursday at 2:15pm . You will be made very welcome”
