About the group
Our group continues to meet every first and third Friday morning in the month.
My group, the Deutsche Diskussionsgruppe, meets in homes every fortnight at 10 am on the first and third Fridays of the month. We spend two hours speaking German, so a reasonably fluent knowledge of the language is helpful. Each member of the group takes his/her turn to host the group and chooses the discussion topic in advance. The meeting usually follows a pattern:
1) A general knowledge quiz in German, provided by the coordinator.
2) A general conversation centring on recent events or personal experiences.
3) Presentation and discussion of the week’s topic chosen in advance by the host(ess). Recent topics have included: “What makes me laugh”,
“Why read/watch TV?”, “Dr Martin Luther and the Reformation”, “The chocolate I like best” (with samples for tasting),”Wishes and Dreams”.
4) A section from a German reader. We are at present reading “Ich bin dann mal weg – meine Reise auf dem Jakobsweg” by the well-known comedian Hape Kerkeling, the story of his walk along the Camino de Santiago.
Occasionally we watch a German film.
