About the group
Our friendly group currently has nine members, meeting on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. We normally meet in members’ homes but during the Covid-19 pandemic we were able to stay in touch via regular Zoom meetings.
We all have a previous knowledge of German and are also fortunate to have two native German speakers in our group. The focus for each session is chosen by the host, so we always have an interesting mix of activities, e.g. reading German articles, poems, doing crosswords and quizzes, general conversation, watching videos, translating – in fact anything German language-related. In addition, we are reading ‘Im Grunde ist alles ganz einfach’ by Dora Heldt, which is a collection of humorous short stories about everyday situations, from decluttering (die Entrümpelung) to taking selfies. It gives us the opportunity to keep up-to-date with useful vocabulary, e.g. das Selfie!
We also organise outings from time to time as well as the occasional get-together for ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’.
