About the group
“The Group currently has fourteen members and meets once a month at a member’s house in Maids Moreton from 10.00am to midday.
We listen to a cross-section of genres – New Orleans, Big Band, Swing and Modern Jazz with occasional visits to jazz venues, especially The Stables. The monthly meetings are themed with one of the members choosing the music or a film about jazz.
The Jazz Appreciation group and friends were treated to a fantastic concert by Richard Exall and Amy Roberts (both ex Chris Barber Band members).
They talked to us about the delights and perils of being freelance musicians, their careers, their instruments and the structure of Jazz. They played a wide variety of music, everything from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumble Bee, through Come Fly with me, Stranger on the Shore, A Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells and other Jazz Classics. They Played Flute, Clarinet, then Alto and Tenor Saxophones, and Richard sang!
Many thanks to Dorothy and David Hill for organising this, a great time was had by all!
You do not have to be very knowledgeable about jazz to join the Group; just enjoy listening to the music. If you are interested in joining, just make contact – the detail is above.
