About the group

Handbells will be restarting on Tuesday 14th September at Gawcott Chapel, Main Street at 2.30 to 4.00pm The group meets weekly.
The handbells group is a small friendly group of people who enjoy making music. There is no need to be able to read music as handbells are played by numbers .
We play with either 6 or 8 ringers who have a bell in each hand. The bells are numbered, each ringer has two consecutive numbered bells and following the score, rings the appropriate bell.
We all make mistakes so no worries if you ring the wrong bell or at the wrong time.
 It’s fun and quite easy once you get going.
We are looking for new members to join our group so why not give it a try?

This is part of a ‘score’ for our bells, as you can see there are no musical notes mentioned, just numbers. The ringer holds a bell in each hand, the number representing the bell being held, so that in bar one for instance, bells one and two are ‘rung’ in turn for beat one and bells three and four are ‘rung’ in turn for beat two and so on.
We may look a bit serious when ringing, that is just us concentrating and counting in time.
