Following the disastrous Brexit vote the EHIC card that you could use when travelling abroad is no longer available but there is a replacement.

To cover UK citizens for basic medical emergency treatment when travelling abroad, it does not replace Travel Insurance but can be used in the same EU countries as the old EHIC.
