About the group
The Group meets on Friday mornings at the chapel in Gawcott
The morning is split into two sessions, the first starting at 09:30 until 10:45r and the second starting at 11:00 and finishing at 12:30. Historically, new members join the first session to learn the bells. The second session usually includes members who are willing and feel capable of playing in public from time to time. We play at local schools and clubs, mainly during the Christmas Period and it is during this period that we look for regular attendance if possible. the emphasis is however to enjoy the ringing and not to worry about mistakes, ‘clangers’ are part of bell ringing!!
A Short peal of bells in “three four” time:-
|Ringer 1||Ringer 2||Ringer 3||Ringer 4||Ringer 5||Ringer 6|
This is part of a ‘score’ for our bells, as you can see there are no musical notes mentioned, just numbers. The ringer holds a bell in each hand, the number representing the bell being held, so that in bar one for instance, bells one and two are ‘rung’ in turn for beat one and bells three and four are ‘rung’ in turn for beat two and so on.
We may look a bit serious when ringing, that is just us concentrating and counting in time.
