About the group
Our friendly group currently has nine members, meeting on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. We all have a previous knowledge of German and are also fortunate enough to have two native German speakers in our group. The focus for each session is chosen by the host, so we always have an interesting mix of activities – e.g. reading German newspaper/internet articles, short stories, poems, general conversation, watching videos, translating – in fact anything German-language related. In addition, we are currently reading ‘Liebesgrüße aus Deutschland’ by Wladimir Kaminer, which is a collection of humorous short stories about aspects of Germany and its people.
We also organise outings from time to time, most recently having had lunch at Katzenjammers, a German Bierkeller in London, where there is an excellent selection of traditional German cuisine on offer (and beer, of course!) This was followed by a tour of the Old Operating Theatre Museum in Southwark, with our very own German guide. We hope to have further excursions this year.
