|Weekday||First Wednesday of the month|
About the group
The purpose of this group is to meet at the same time as the existing French Lunch Group but in a different place. This gives an opportunity for those who love French food and to explore French cuisine (as those in the other group) but not face the problem of speaking French but to conduct our conversation and experience in English.
We will meet in each other’s houses and we plan to visit a few French restaurants within our local area on the first Wednesday in the month.
For our last meeting we met at the home of Geoffrey Shaw when apart from a “Bonjour” greeting we enjoyed each other’s company in English. We agreed that we would try very hard to ensure that we ate in as near a French style as possible. i.e. baguette available throughout, unsalted butter a cheese course before the dessert and for much of the meal we used the same plate. We much enjoyed the menu of French Onion and red wine soup, Tartiflette, Salade, Cheeses of Brie, Port Salut and Comté, and plums in red wine. Some of us drank a Muscadet but, as some did not want to drink and drive, I had to allow some very English elderflower. We finished with a French instant coffee. The conversation flowed, so much so that we were still going at 3.45 pm when Valerie returned from her French Lunch.
We need more members to join us. No commitment except to try to come when available. We next meet at the home of Charles and Sheila Tanner in Tingewick
on Wednesday 7 June.
